Our Role

The Centre exists to :

  • Help improve the quality of life in the Northern Parishes by enabling the people to have the opportunity to play an active and positive part in their community.
     
  • Offer a variety of services that are appropriate to the needs of the community and enhance the lives of all concerned.
     
  • Encourage, support and develop individuals, groups and organisations involved in voluntary action.
     
  • Offer equality of opportunity for everyone in our community.
     
  • Promote communication between the public, private and voluntary sectors.

Our Core Function is to:

  • Interview and recruit people wishing to become volunteers for local projects.
     
  • Place volunteers with voluntary and/or statutory agencies or with Centre in-house projects.
     
  • Advise volunteers and organisations on any issues that are relevant to their successful operation.
     
  • Inform prospective volunteers of their rights as volunteers and of policies such as Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety at Work etc.
     
  • Develop new projects that involve volunteers in liaison with other agencies.
     
  • Train volunteers, voluntary and self-help groups in the skills and knowledge required to achieve their objectives.
     
  • Promote voluntary work to the general public and provide a focal point for all organisations using volunteers.
     
  • Liaise with statutory and voluntary organisations locally, countywide and nationally.
     
  • Represent voluntary work issues to local policy makers.
